No distractions mode blanks your timeline, Explore, trends and search. Posting, notifications, replies, messages and bookmarks carry on exactly as before.
Site blockers make you choose between all of X and none of it. That is why nobody keeps them on: you still need to post, and you still need to answer people.
This turns off only the part that scrolls at you. Your home timeline, Explore, trends, who to follow, search results and the posts on other people's profiles all come back empty. Everything you actually opened X to do is untouched.

Mute an account and its posts still leave a grey box with a button to reveal them. You know something is there, so you press it. That is a delay, not a mute.
Muffle hides the post before it reaches your screen, with nothing left to click. And it can match on who someone is, not only what they wrote, so you can hide everyone whose bio mentions a phrase you are tired of reading.

Nothing on X tells you. Scan your followers twice and the second scan lists everyone who left in between, and everyone new.
Your own searchable copy, with tags and export. The built-in search only matches exact words and cannot look inside folders, and folders need a paid plan.
Everyone you follow who does not follow you back, with their bio, follower count and how long ago you followed them. Sort it, then unfollow from the list.
X limits how fast you can unfollow, and hitting that limit locks the action for hours. Muffle leaves a few seconds between each one and shows you the timer. If X pushes back anyway, it stops on its own and picks up later rather than digging you in deeper.
