The short version. The extension keeps everything on your own computer.
The only thing it ever sends anywhere is your licence key, to the company that sold it to you,
to check that it is valid. If you type your email into a form on this site, that is
stored so we can tell you when a new feature ships, and nothing more.
What Muffle stores, and where
All of this lives in your browser's own storage, on your machine. None of it is uploaded.

When X changes the shape of its data, Muffle keeps one raw response
excerpt so the fault can be diagnosed instead of failing silently. It can
contain the text and author of a single post, or one profile. It is
overwritten by the next fault and cleared as soon as the feature works
again. |
What leaves your computer
One thing, and only if you bought a licence:
- Your licence key, a device label such as “Muffle on Mac”, and an activation id,
sent to Dodo Payments to check the key is valid. Roughly once a day.
That is the complete list. Your posts, bookmarks, follower lists, filter rules and browsing
are never transmitted, to us or to anyone else.
What Muffle does not do
- No account sign-in, no OAuth, no password. It never sees your X credentials and never asks.
- The extension has no server of ours to talk to. There is nowhere for your data to be sent, even by mistake.
- No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising, no tracking pixels.
- No third-party scripts. Everything that runs is in the extension you installed.
- Nothing is sold, shared or disclosed, because nothing is collected.
How it reads your X data
Muffle does not ask X for anything of its own. It reads the pages your browser has already
loaded for you, while you are looking at them, and keeps what you asked it to keep. A scan
works by opening the relevant page and scrolling it, exactly as you would.

Deleting your data
Uninstall the extension and everything it stored goes with it. There is no account to close
and nothing held anywhere else. Individual parts can be cleared from inside the dashboard: the
hidden-posts log has a Clear button, and releasing a licence removes the key.
The email form on this website
Separate from the extension: if you type your email into one of the forms on this site,
that address is stored so we can tell you when a new feature ships.
- Stored in our own database on Cloudflare. No mailing-list company, no third party.
- Your address, the time, and the country code Cloudflare reports. Nothing else, and no
cookies.
- Used only to announce new features. Never sold, never shared, never used for anything
else.
- Ask at the address below and it is deleted.
Visit counts on this website
So I can tell which pages help people, this website (not the extension) counts visits on
its own server. No analytics company, no cookies, no script from anyone else.
- For each page view: the page, the time, the site you came from, and the country code
Cloudflare reports.
- Clicks on Add to Chrome and Buy: which page, which of the two.
- To count you once a day rather than once per page, a one-way code is made from your
address, browser and the date. Your address is not stored, and a new date gives a new code,
so visits on different days can't be linked.
- Kept 90 days, then deleted. Seen only by me.
The extension is unaffected by any of this and still sends nothing.
Children
Muffle is not directed at children under 13 and the extension collects nothing from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything material will be
called out in the extension's release notes.
