Search your X bookmarks, properly
Bookmarking on X is easy and finding a bookmark is not. The built-in search matches
exact words, cannot look inside folders, and folders need a paid plan.
What you get
- Full text search across every bookmark, including the ones in folders
- Your own tags, which X does not have
- JSON export, so the archive is yours and leaves with you
- New bookmarks captured as you make them, not only when you run a sync
That last one matters more than it sounds. Bookmarking a post on x.com saves a copy at the
same moment, so the archive is current without you remembering to do anything.
Why a local copy at all
X has deleted bookmarks before, and posts you bookmarked get deleted by their authors all
the time. A bookmark is a pointer, not a copy. When the post goes, the bookmark becomes a
dead link.
Muffle keeps the text, the author and the date, so a deleted post is still readable in your
archive.
Where it is stored
In your browser's own IndexedDB. There is no account and no server of ours, so there is
nowhere for it to be sent. Uninstall the extension and the archive goes with it, which is
why the export exists.
When a hosted tool is the better answer
Dedicated bookmark managers do things this deliberately does not: email digests, syncing to
Notion or Sheets, reading on your phone, and keeping your archive if your laptop dies.
If you want your bookmarks on every device, you want a hosted tool and you should accept
the account that comes with it. If you want them searchable on the machine you actually read
