How to turn off the X (Twitter) feed and keep posting
Deleting the app solves the scrolling and breaks everything else you use X for. The goal
is narrower: no feed, but posting, replies, notifications and messages still work. Here is
every way to get close, starting with what X gives you for free.

With what X already has
- Use Following, not For You. Following shows only accounts you follow.
Still a feed, but a smaller one you chose.
- Make a List your home. Put the 20 or 30 accounts you actually read into a
private List and bookmark its URL. Lists are in order and only show those accounts. Muffle's
No distractions blanks Lists too, so pick one or the other.
- Bookmark Notifications instead of Home. Open x.com/notifications
directly, so you land on replies to you rather than the timeline.
- Prune Interests and mute words. In Settings, under Privacy and safety,
Content you see, untick topics you never want. It changes what fills the feed, not whether
there is one.
All four are free and work on your phone. None removes the feed: it is one tap away, which is
the problem.
Site blockers
A blocker makes X unreachable for a set time. It works, and it also blocks posting, replies
and messages, so people who need X for work end up switching it off and forgetting to switch
it back on.
Browser extensions that remove the feed
| Extension | What goes | Price | Browsers |
| Muffle | Home, Explore, trends, search results, Lists and other people's timelines | Free | Chrome, Edge, Brave |
| News Feed Eradicator | The home feed, Explore's For You and trends | Free | Chrome, Firefox |
| Control Panel for Twitter | Can disable the home timeline and send you to Notifications | Free | Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, iOS |
Muffle is the strictest of the three: search results and other people's profiles go blank
too, because that is where the scrolling moves once Home is gone. News Feed Eradicator covers a dozen other
sites. Control Panel for Twitter works on an iPhone. Muffle can also switch the feed off on its own once
you pass a daily time limit.
On your phone
Extensions do not run in the X app. On a phone the best you can do is the Lists trick above,
plus the app time limit your phone already has (Screen Time on iPhone, Digital Wellbeing on
Android). Control Panel for Twitter works in Safari on iOS if you use X in the browser.
